How Tipsy Vine Got Started
Hi! I’m Julia! Owner and founder of The Tipsy Vine. Born and raised in the great state of Washington, I’ve long been humbled by the expansive beauty, diverse terrain, and endless adventure that this state holds. While I’ve been a long-time consumer in the wine industry, my background is in public health and corporate wellness.
I come from a food and drink obsessed family - my parents met at the Culinary Institute of America. We’re the type of family that spends our time thinking about food, planning meals, creating new recipes, talking about food, shopping for food, reading about food- you get the picture. We feel the same about imbibing in delicious drinks. From home-brewing beer to self-taught mixology and constant brainstorming of new ways to enjoy two of life’s greatest pleasures…its no wonder I fell in love with the wine industry.
I started exploring Washington wine regions in late 2019. At first, these wine tasting trips were just a fun weekend getaway. Pretty quickly though, they turned into much more than that. I fell in love with the storytelling of the industry, I loved how much I could learn during one single tasting, I loved the camaraderie I felt after leaving a winery. My palette expanded- I discovered what type of wine and winemaking I was attracted to and perhaps, most importantly, I developed a deep appreciation for the terroir, farming practices and winemaking technique.
Over time, I accumulated enough wine to create a collection I’m quite proud of. In addition to collecting bottles, I started collecting wine club memberships (much to my husband’s delight). At my prime, I was the proud member of EIGHT different wine clubs. Every get-together, dinner party or holiday- our friends and family wanted us to bring the wine! Everyone LOVED learning about and drinking different varieties of wine…just one problem, though: nobody wanted to commit to the amount of wine clubs we’d chosen to commit to, but everyone wanted these incredible wines on their dinner table.
Alas… fast forward to November of 2022. Enjoying a bottle of sparkling lakeside in the snow with my husband, while our two kids had a snowball fight, the idea came to me: Create one single wine club membership that championed Washington State wine. One wine club that allowed consumers to enjoy an experiential bottle of wine from the comfort of their home, without sacrificing the storytelling and educational importance behind the winery and bottle of wine. A surprising by-product of the wine industry that I’ve come to discover is the true connection built between industry and consumer.
By embracing the interconnectedness of winemaking and agriculture, we can gain a profound appreciation for the dedication, skill and creativity of winemakers and farmers. It allows us to save and celebrate the fruits of their labor while fostering a deeper connection to the land, the artistry behind every bottle of wine.
